On October 4, 2024, Farhan Zia (they/them) led an inspiring and thought-provoking session on Queerness, Human Rights, and the Law. Organized by the students of PRIDE Society, the Centre for Comparative Constitutional Law and Administrative Law (CCAL), and the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee (LAAC) at NLU Jodhpur, the event explored the challenges and strategies of human rights activism for LGBTQ+ communities.
Farhan emphasized that true change starts with identifying specific areas that need action and transforming abstract ideals into tangible, actionable goals. Their insights on grassroots activism highlighted how lived experiences are vital in understanding the complexities faced by marginalized communities.
One of the most engaging parts of the event was a student-led exercise where participants shared their visions of an ideal world. Farhan guided them to see how idealism, while essential, must be accompanied by practical, real-world steps to drive effective change.
The session ended with a powerful conversation on the fears and barriers that often hold people back from engaging in activism, encouraging everyone to reflect on how they can overcome these obstacles to create more inclusive, actionable changes.
